Volunteerism remains at the heart of the Northland Shepherd's Center with nearly 300 volunteers helping adults ages 60-plus who are in need. We welcome volunteers of all walks of life for a variety of activities and events. Whether you can help weekly or just once, your time makes a difference!
To volunteer, please print volunteer application below and complete both sides of form. Then return to us by either:

Learn how volunteers have helped seniors at Northland Shepherd's Center
Drive riders to and from medical appointments, pharmacy, grocery store, financial institutions and other vital business. You can self-accept rides that fit your schedule using Ride Scheduler (a web-based software system).
Complete minor home repairs for the cost of materials only.
Provide grocery shopping on a temporary or permanent basis for homebound adults.
Market Bus Assistant:
The bus assistant and driver work as a team to provide group transportation to the grocery store. Supervise trip details ensuring a smooth program for the group as a whole. Riders need moderate assistance entering and exiting the bus. Load, lift and carry groceries. Ability to lift overhead up to 30lbs required. First and third Friday of the month from 8:50a to 12:30p.
Learning & Laughter Bus Assistant:
The bus assistant and driver work as a team to provide group transportation for our life enrichment program. Riders need moderate help entering and exiting the bus. Second and fourth Wednesday of the month from 8:00a to 9:15a.
Breaktime Club Bus Assistant:
The bus assistant and driver work as a team to provide safe, supervised group transportation for our Breaktime Club bus route. Riders are provided full hands-on help from door to bus seat to hand-off. Supervision, compassion and decision skills are needed. Tuesdays 8:00a to 10:00a or Tuesdays 1:15p to 3:15p.
Weekend Call Check:
A daily telephone “check-in” for adults living alone and who have a decreasing social network. One to two weekends (holidays when applicable) a month check office voice mail
Care Call and Friendly Visitor:
Offer caring companionship by a weekly in-home visit or telephone call to adults experiencing or at risk of isolation.
Health Care Companion:
Is a screened and trained volunteer matched to an older adult who needs help keeping up with healthcare needs. Requires a one year commitment, once a week visit with the older adult and monthly training.
Respite for Family Caregivers:
Provide non-medical supervision and companionship to a dependent adult who cannot be left home alone. Additionally, you are providing the caregiver time away for other tasks or simply time to relax. Commitment is one visit per week for two to four hours.
Adventures in Learning:
A monthly adult program offering entertainment, community speakers, socialization and lunch. Every second Friday at North Cross UMC and third Friday at Liberty UMC; September thru May. Volunteers needed for variety of positions: event scheduling, planning, set up, clean up, etc.
A program for adults age 60+ who need supervision or support with daily activities of life. Volunteers assist with setup, check in, activities, lunch, clean-up, etc. Tuesday and/or Thursday from 9:00a to 1:45pm
Learning & Laughter:
A bimonthly day program for 60+ offering stimulating classes, entertainment and fellowship. Volunteers interact with clients, assist with setup, lunch, clean-up, etc. Second and fourth Wednesday 8:30a to 1:15p.
