Low on eggs or milk? This is an old wartime recipe is a great treat on a cold rainy day!

WACKY CAKE

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 tbsp cocoa
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 tbsp white vinegar
  • 1 tbsp vanilla
  • 1 cup warm water

Preheat oven to 350 degrees

In UNGREASED 8 inch square cake pan, combine flour, sugar, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, and salt and mix thoroughly.

Level off and make three holes: pour oil in one, vinegar into second and vanilla in the third. Pour water over all and stir well with a fork.

Bake for 30-40 minutes or until a tooth pick inserted come out clean. Frost with your favorite icing.
