Parking Lot PEPPI
NSC hosted a fun-filled morning on Monday, June 1, with an outdoor
exercise class, held on our front parking lot. Helpers arrived early to “decorate†the parking lot, using lots of sidewalk chalk. We had hearts, encouraging quotes, flowers, and more! Each heart was strategically social distanced to be 6’ apart from one another. Each participant had a chair by their “heartâ€.
Prior to COVID-19, our volunteer exercise leaders, Vangie Webb and Mary
Sage, held 3 classes every week inside our beautiful facility. Then, in March we received the news that for everyone’s safety, we needed to discontinue our LIFT and PEPPI classes. We kept thinking we would only be closed for a couple of weeks, then a couple more, and then more. This coronavirus has certainly changed our lives in more ways than we ever imagined.
However, we have a very resilient, determined group of exercise
participants, and when the idea of a parking lot class was presented to them, everyone wanted to come! Vangie and Mary started us out with some basic stretches, and then lead everyone through a mixed session of exercises from our regular LIFT and PEPPI classes. What a joy to see everyone “getting a move onâ€!
Our time was short, as the morning sun was shining brightly, and the black
asphalt pavement turns hot in a hurry. Knowing that we probably weren’t going to have another class anytime soon, each participant received a bag of goodies to take home. In addition to a few treats such as granola bars and small packages of cheese/crackers, everyone received lots of good information for exercises they can do in their own homes, and also healthy eating tips.
We concluded with a drawing for a door prize; won by Lydia Allen! Lydia
received a special gift of goodies, including a “Walk With Ease†guidebook,
published by the Arthritis Foundation. Congratulations, Lydia!
