Stories of Hope
“It’s not a handout—it’s giving us a hand up.” That’s how one Northland Shepherd’s Center client describes her help from the agency. Northland Shepherd’s Center is the right arm of older adults who want to stay in their homes. Whether its offering minor home repair, helping them find relief from energy bills, delivering a hot noon meal, or teaching exercises to help adults learn how to help themselves, NSC is there.
“She’s an angel,” one client said of his Meal Delivery volunteer. “She brings my mail and paper to the door when she brings me my noon meal, and always asks how I feel or says, “Is there anything else you need?”

"During a walk one day, next thing I knew, I was “skating” down the hill on pine needles. As I picked up speed, I looked for something to grab ahold
of, but nothing was available! All the while, I was thinking about what I had learned in my Matter of Balance class."

"Learning and Laughter is a great way for me to get out of the house and be with friends,” (Getting there via the local KCATA Flex Bus services) was a lot of information to handle, but NSC got me
through it, and now I can maneuver the transportation system.”
